Our Vision

To eradicate homelessness and hunger in and around our community.

HOME

Johnson and Shareen, the founders of Feed of Love, have been in service to the homeless for the past 8 years. Since 2014, they have distributed close to 4 lakh food packets to the homeless and needy in their community.

It was a one man’s cry that caused the inception of Feed of Love.

One night, in the year 2014, an elderly homeless hungry man, Mr. Chinnappan “Thatha”, was found crying on the streets by the couple. Being curious and driven by concern, they approached the old man, and learnt that he hadn’t eaten a proper meal for a couple of days. Moved by compassion, they handed over their left-over food that they had packed from a restaurant.

What started with the cry of one man, became an act of service unto all the homeless people on the streets of Chennai.

Who we serve

We as a team have had many life-altering moments as part of our project “Street to Shelter”, where we have closely witnessed the lives of homeless people transform and have been essential with helping them commence living their lives with a sense of dignity, respect, and well-being.

Our encounters with those who are homeless, have caused us a change in perspective towards life itself – to live everyday with contentment, with a grateful heart and have a purpose – driven mind to love and serve those in distress around us.

The goal is not only to feed the homeless daily but to conduct a census, recognize them and ensure total transformation from the inside out.

Our Programs involve

HOMELESS

Feeding program

Food and water is a basic necessity for humans to live. We provide the homeless with nutritious food one meal a day. We are also certified by the Fssai.

Blanket Drive

During the winter, many of the homeless pass away being unable to bear the weather. We provide them each a winter kit consisting of a blanket, a mosquito net, a tarpaulin sheet and a raincoat and some eatables

Quench the thirst

With the intense heat sweeping across Chennai taking a toll on many people, especially the homeless, we serve them a litre of water and watermelon juice everyday for 2 months along with their everyday meals.

Rehabilitation (Shelter)

We do not have a shelter of our own now. So, the homeless are moved to the nearest Greater Chennai Corporation Centre for rehab.

KIDS

There are about 375 children that we work with, who belong to underprivileged and rejected communities. We serve them by helping them recognize their dreams and goals in life.

Tools for School

We ensure that the underprivileged children are provided with tools for school such as notebooks, stationary kit, water bottle, backpack and lunch box. We also provide evening tuitions for the kids to fare well in their education in these communities.

The education of a handful of deserving children are even fully sponsored by the Trust.

Toy for Joy

Toy for Joy is an outreach program where we serve the underprivileged children to let them experience the little pleasures of hand me downs. Most children don’t even have the privileges of hand me downs and we do this just so that they experience the happiness and joys of childhood.

COVID RESPONSE

The whole world’s attention is focused on only one thing now: The global pandemic. COVID-19 has changed the world and our lives as we’ve always known. It has become our “new normal”. Imagine what that must be like for the homeless and poor people. All the lives, they have lived in fear, uncertainty, hunger, deprivation, inaccessible, shame and humiliation. There is nothing new or normal about this.

The homeless experienced and lived during a pandemic named “poverty” way before this virus came along.

But the COVID pandemic left them more vulnerable and at risk than before. At Feed of Love, we decided to take an initiative to step up and step out and help those in need.
